Welcome to the web site of the
Surrey Branch of Montessori Centre International (MCI)

Based in Woking, Surrey, we provide part-time training courses based on Montessori principles for anyone who wants to obtain a recognised qualification in Early Years Education, or who is simply interested in understanding the Montessori approach to child education.

It is universally accepted that a child's early learning experiences, whether at home with their parents, grandparents or nanny, or at nursery or pre-school, are highly influential in all aspects of their future development: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. This stage of a child's education is therefore at least as important as any other stage (probably more so), and it follows that practitioners should be properly trained and equipped for this vital role, whatever their particular setting - school, nursery or home.

Chidren hand-in-handMaria Montessori, an Italian doctor, developed a philosophy and practice that have had a profound influence on the education of young children across the world. Our courses are based on her respected method of child-centred learning, which we believe offers a structured, supportive and effective way of encouraging children to develop independence and to grow at their own pace.

Who we are
Montessori Centre International (Surrey) is a branch of MCI, one of the largest Montessori training establishments in the world. In the UK, MCI has trained over 20,000 students from a wide variety of ages, backgrounds and nationalities. MCI has its headquarters in London, and has established local branches such as ours to enable students to study closer to where they live and work.

Our students
There really is no 'typical student' at MCI (Surrey). We have people aged from 17 to over 50; some are single, others are married with children. Most are hoping to pursue a career in early years education as teachers in Montessori schools or nurseries, and some are interested in setting up their own schools. But we also have students who are simply interested in the Montessori philosophy: parents - and often grandparents - who want to understand how to help their children to develop into balanced and fulfilled individuals. The common factor is a love of children and a desire to give them the best possible start in life.
